Film King of the 80s

John Hughes dead at 59

I'm so sad to hear about the sudden death of John Hughes. According to his publicist he suffered a heart attack while taking a morning walk in New York. Hughes was a prolific director, writer and producer, most known for his 1980 movies featuring young stars Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Jon Cryer and more.

His most well-known movies from that era are 'Sixteen Candles,' 'The Breakfast Club' and 'Pretty in Pink,' but his many other credits include 'Weird Science,' 'National Lampoon's Vacation,' 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off,' 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' and 'Home Alone.'

I mentioned something Mr. Hughes once said to me in a previous posting. In 2005, he told me, "Make sure you stay true to your generation. Be careful never to mislead or misrepresent them. Once you do that - they'll turn their backs on you forever. Stay authentic and never do what Hollywood wants you to do. Tell your own stories. Stay true to you."

My generation salutes you, Mister John Hughes. 777!
