Skies Over Cairo

SKIES OVER CAIRO

At dawn,
The ghostly
Call for prayer
Resonates
Throughout
Cairo's
Ancient
Graveyard -
Stirring
A haunting,
Yet heavenly
Song
That moves
The roosters
And doves
To
Tears.

The start of
A new day
Has begun,
And the clouds
Humbly part way
For the majestic rays
Of the
Magnificent
Sun.

Yellows,
Reds and gold
Explode
Over the sedated horizon
And a child's
Bold smearing of
Peaches,
Mangoes,
And bleeding hibiscus -
Kisses
A silhouette
Of minarets
From which the Angels
Come out to pour
Love into the skies.

The children
Of the Pharaohs
Rise and wash the sleep
From their eyes.
Then they synergize in line
And say thanks to the light.
Yes,
They say thanks to the light.
Then they sip their tea,
With some olives
And cheese,
Before stepping out
To meet
The humidity
Outside.

Under
The blistering
Tableau
Above
The
City line -
One can see
The fiery strokes
Of a blazing fire.
Its reflection
Is detected
In the eyes
And hearts
Of Egypt’s natives,
When the
Hustling streets
Of Cairo -
Are bustling
With greed,
Despair and
Desire.
